Welcome to Mrs. Miller’s class. I am very excited to have your child as one of my students this year! Here’s a little about me: I became an educator because I have always loved working with children and want to make a difference. I grew up in North Miami/Miramar and then moved to Tampa where I graduated from the University of South Florida. I have lived in Port St. Lucie for 15 years with my wonderful husband and our two children. We are a family of faith. My very supportive husband, Todd, owns a garage door company D&D Garage Doors. My creative daughter, Brooke, is in 7th grade at LPA. She is a gymnast, cheerleader, and softball player. My energetic son, Hunter, is in 5th grade at SLWK8. He plays baseball and loves most every sport. They keep me on my toes!
This year I'm so excited to teach 2nd grade! I have taught 6th, 7th, 8th, and 3rd grades. In my spare time I like to play with technology (I'm a nerd), watch my children's games, read, and spend time on the boat with my family. My teaching philosophy is to love, respect, and nurture my students. No child is alike, so I will treat them fairly, but not equally. Each one is different and amazing in his/her own way.
I vow to give your child a safe and structured learning environment. I expect rules and procedures to be followed, but I am by no means a drill sergeant. Student engagement is the key to success. They will be involved in their own learning.
Your children are encouraged to be brave and stand up for what’s right, to be respectful of themselves and others, to lead yet know how to follow. Second grade is not only a time to build academically, but to build their character, to help them see the world and make their mark on it. As the year progresses, they will become more and more responsible.
I am honored to spend this school year enriching your little one and exploring the best in them. I believe that by all of us working together, we can make this a very successful year!
Sincerely,
Alicia Miller
